Bo Nix, Oregon Ducks football routs ASU Sun Devils in Pac-12 game

The Arizona State Sun Devils entered their game against Oregon riding high after an upset win over UCLA the week before.

It didn’t take long to see that Oregon is a lot better than UCLA.

The Ducks, led by quarterback Bo Nix, scored touchdowns on all six of their first-half possessions, with Nix throwing touchdown passes on all of the drives, on their way to a 49-13 win at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe.

Nix finished the game with more touchdown passes than incompletions. He was 24-for-29 for 404 yards, with the six touchdowns.

Troy Franklin had eight catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns for Oregon. Patrick Herbert had three catches for 78 yards and two scores. Gary Bryant Jr. had three catches for 82 yards and a touchdown and Texx Johnson had six catches for 80 yards and a TD reception.

Nix has now thrown for 3,135 yards and 29 touchdowns this season. He has had just two passes intercepted. He exited the game after Oregon’s first possession of the second half.

He is considered a favorite for the Heisman this season and his play against Arizona State only helped his cause.

Oregon finished with 603 yards of total offense in the game.

ASU had 316.

The Sun Devils only allowed UCLA to score seven points in their upset in Pasadena last week, but Oregon was obviously a different story and Arizona State couldn’t stop the Ducks, who have won five straight games since their lone loss, a 36-33 setback against Washington.

Oregon improved to 10-1 with the win. The Ducks are 7-1 in the Pac-12 and host Oregon State in a huge Pac-12 game next week, controlling their destiny for a Pac-12 Championship appearance.

Arizona State fell to 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the Pac-12 with the loss. The Sun Devils host Arizona next week hoping to spoil the end of the Wildcats’ regular season.

The game is over. The Oregon Ducks have defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils, 49-13.

ASU adds field goal against Oregon

Dario Longhetto has connected on a 34-yard field goal to make the score 49-13 with 7:22 left in the fourth quarter.

The Sun Devils couldn’t take advantage of great field position after an interception to get in the end zone.

They went 15 yards over seven plays.

Arizona State intercepts pass from Oregon

The Sun Devils have intercepted their second pass of the second half.

Ty Thompson was hit as he threw on Oregon’s next possession and ASU was able to get the pick, and the ball back, against the Ducks.

ASU gets first touchdown of game vs. Oregon

The Sun Devils have their first touchdown of the game against Oregon.

Melquan Stovall’s 15-yard touchdown rush pulled ASU within 49-10 and ended Arizona State’s 12-play, 67-yard drive.

There is 8:39 left in the game.

Oregon extends lead vs. ASU on touchdown pass from Ty Thompson

Oregon pulled Bo Nix out of the game on its second possession of the second half, putting in Arizona high school product Ty Thompson at quarterback.

Nix ended up finishing 24-for-29 for 404 yards and six touchdown passes in the game, playing one possession into the second half.

Thompson, who played at Gilbert Mesquite High, extended the Ducks’ lead vs. Arizona State on his first possession under center.

The Oregon backup QB threw a 19-yard pass to Casey Kelly to give Oregon a 49-3 lead with 14:20 left in the fourth quarter.

Oregon’s drive went for 11 plays and 75 yards. It took 6:13.

Thompson was 3-for-4 for 43 yards, with the touchdown pass, on the drive.

Arizona State gets on scoreboard vs. Oregon

The Sun Devils are not longer getting shut out in Tempe.

Dario Longhetto just hit a 38-yard field goal to cap a 9-play, 55-yard drive and give Arizona State its first three points of the game.

The big play on the drive was a 22-yard completion from Trenton Bourguet to Troy Omeire.

ASU stops Oregon for first time

Oregon appeared to be going for a field goal at the end of their first possession of the second half, but the snapper couldn’t handle the snap and ended up throwing a pass that was intercepted by ASU’s Ed Woods.

It was the first stop for ASU on an Oregon possession in this game. Oregon had scored touchdowns on its previous six possessions.

Hey, the Sun Devils will take it.

The Ducks gained 29 yards on the drive. It momentarily appeared like Bo Nix was going to get his seventh touchdown pass of the game on the drive, but Terrance Ferguson was called for offensive pass interference, nullifying a 5-yard TD reception and pushing Oregon back.

ASU turns ball over on downs to start second half vs. Oregon

The Sun Devils turned the ball over on downs to open the second half against Oregon, gaining 32 yards over seven plays.

Trenton Bourguet is 12-for-22 for 81 yards for Arizona State in this game.

Oregon extends lead vs. ASU before half

Bo Nix now has a career high six touchdown passes in this game against Arizona State.

And there is 10 seconds left in the first half … Seriously.

Nix and the Ducks just drove 98 yards in seven plays in just 56 seconds. They took the 42-0 lead on a 16-yard pass from Nix to Tez Johnson.

Oregon is a perfect 6-for-6 in touchdowns on their drives in this game.

Nix is 22-for-27 for 381 yards, along with those six touchdowns, so he has more touchdown passes than incompletions in this game.

The Ducks have 444 total yards in this game.

The six touchdown passes for Nix have tied the Oregon single-game record. And there are 30 minutes left to play in Tempe.

Promising ASU drive ends with an interception against Oregon

The Sun Devils were putting together their best drive of the game late in the first half, and appeared on the doorstep of scoring.

Then Cameron Skattebo lofted an ill-advised pass toward the end zone that was intercepted by Oregon.

ASU’s drive went for 15 plays, 65 yards and took 6:09 off the clock.

But the Sun Devils are still not on the scoreboard.

Skattebo, a running back, is 2-for-6 passing for ASU in this game, with the interception.

ASU completed two fourth down attempts on the drive to extend their possession.

A positive? ASU had just 48 yards of total offense in this game before that drive, which went for 65 yards.

Five touchdown passes for Oregon’s Bo Nix against ASU … and we are in the second quarter

That caption above is correct.

Bo Nix has thrown for five touchdowns in this game against Arizona State. And there is 7:22 left in the second quarter.

The latest touchdown was a short pass to Gary Bryant Jr., who eluded several ASU tacklers as he ran 71 yards for a touchdown on the Ducks’ fifth possession of the game.

Five possession, five touchdowns for Oregon.

Oregon’s drive this time only took two plays.

The Ducks have a 15:59 to 6:39 advantage in time of possession and a 361-52 advantage in total yards.

The only advantage that really matters, however, is the scoreboard and Oregon is up 35-0 on it right now.

ASU just had its second straight 3-and-out against Oregon, but it did gain four yards this time before being forced to punt.

Trenton Bourguet is 6-for-11 passing now in this game, but his passes have only gone for 17 total yards.

It’s going to be a long game in Tempe.

ASU makes it harder on Oregon, but Ducks extend lead vs. Sun Devils

Oregon has extended its lead to 28-0 on ASU with a 45-yard pass from Bo Nix to Troy Franklin to top off a 10-play, 65-yard drive.

ASU just can’t stop the Ducks, although it came close twice on the possession, as Oregon converted two fourth-downs to extend its drive.

Oregon has 15 first downs in this game. It has 287 total yards.

Bo Nix is 16-for-20 for 232 yards and four touchdowns as he pads his already impressive stats that have him as a Heisman Trophy contender.

ASU was able to shut down UCLA last week, but Oregon is in a class way above the Bruins and it has shown on the Ducks’ first four possessions, which have all gone for touchdowns.

Sun Devils punt again against Ducks

ASU’s most recent possession was its worst so far this game. The Sun Devils went 3-and-out and didn’t gain a yard, having to punt back to Oregon after a pass for no gain and two straight incompletions.

48 yards on three possessions isn’t going to cut it, especially when you are trying to hang with an offense as potent as Oregon’s.

ASU has three first downs in this game. It has four yards rushing. It has no hope to be competitive with numbers like that against Oregon.

ASU has no answer for Bo Nix, Oregon offense

The Sun Devils cannot stop the Ducks.

Oregon has had three possession in the first quarter. They have three touchdown drives that have all ended with touchdown passes from Bo Nix.

The most recent? A 16-yard completion to Troy Franklin to push the score to 21-0 Oregon.

It is Franklin’s 12th touchdown reception of the season.

Oregon’s latest drive took eight plays and went for 67 yards.

Oregon has already gained 222 yards in this game.

161 of them have come on Nix passes. He is 11-for-13 with the three touchdowns in this game.

ASU forced to punt on second possession vs. Oregon

ASU gained 13 yards on four plays on its second possession before having to punt back to Oregon.

Trenton Bourguet is 3-for-7 passing for 13 yards in this game. ASU has just four yards rushing, on two carries from Cameron Skattebo.

Oregon has a 150-48 edge in yards so far this game, with each team having two possessions.

The Sun Devils could obviously use a stop on Oregon’s third possession.

Too easy for Oregon, as Ducks extend lead vs. Arizona State with huge play

The Ducks did not appear to overlook the Sun Devils.

Oregon just extended its lead to 14-0 on a 5-play, 75-yard drive, with most of the damage coming on a 49-yard screen pass from Bo Nix to Patrick Herbert for the touchdown.

It is the 13th straight game Nix has had two or more touchdown passes. And the Ducks have only had two possessions.

He is 6-for-8 for 112 yards and the two scores.

Herbert has three catches for 78 yards and the two touchdowns.

A for ASU’s creativity, but not for execution on first drive vs. Oregon

ASU’s Kenny Dillingham was very creative on offense in the Sun Devils’ upset over UCLA last week.

He continued that creativity on ASU’s first play on offense against Oregon.

RB Cameron Skattebo came out as the Sun Devils’ starting quarterback for the first play and ASU picked up a first down on a pass interference penalty on Oregon.

Skattebo later threw a 31-yard completion to tight end Jalin Conyers on 3rd and 4 at ASU’s 46 to keep the drive alive for Arizona State.

ASU came up empty on the drive, however, as Dario Longhetto missed a 43-yard field goal at the end of the drive, which lasted seven plays and went for 50 yards for the Sun Devils.

ASU’s defense is going to have to come up with some stops if the Sun Devils want to have any chance of staying in this game and it could really use a stop on the Ducks’ second possession.

Oregon, Bo Nix strike first on opening drive vs. Arizona State

The Oregon offense is hard to stop.

ASU couldn’t stop the Ducks on the first possession of the game.

Bo Nix found Patrick Herbert for a 23-yard touchdown reception to give Oregon a 7-0 lead with 11:34 left in the first quarter at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe.

The drive took nine plays and went for 75 yards.

ASU had a chance hold Oregon to a three-and-out, but Nix found Tez Johnson for 18 yards on 3rd and 11 at the Oregon 24 to keep the Ducks’ drive alive.

Oregon didn’t have another third down on the possession.

Nix went 4-for-6 for 57 yards on the drive. He also had a carry for 10 yards.

Oregon is 6-0 this season when it scores first.
